Quilt expo recap!

For the first time, I had a booth at Quilt Expo! In fact, this was the first booth I've ever had at any show -- talk about jumping in with both feet! It was a huge undertaking, but I had a lot of help!

The people I need to thank the most are my husband, RT, and my friend and fellow TuffetSource affiliate, Meg McKinney. Meg is a fantastic photographer -- you should really check out her gallery. If you see good photos in this blog post, they're probably hers. She came up from Alabama to help me out with the booth and her assistance was invaluable.

Here's the booth:

All about quilt expo

It's been a little while since I've posted but that's because I've been so busy with Quilt Expo! I was lucky enough to be able to give my Rinky Dink class as a one hour lecture all three days. Plus, I spent a lot of time in the Quintessential Quilts booth and was also able to spend some time helping out the friendly faces in the Bungalow Quilting and Yarn booth. I just discovered that Bungalow also has an Etsy shop! Dangerous!

Anyway, we prepared dozens and dozens of tuffet kits for sale through the Quintessential booth. We brought home a lot of them, but I made countless contacts and think that classes will fill up really quickly. Be sure to sign up for a class before it fills!

On to photos!

Making sure I got noticed. The tiara lights up and the sign on it reads "tuffet lady!"

I ran into Laura from Plum Tree Quilts (link in photo). It was great to see a friendly face from Richmond days!

Poor Nancy. I really ambushed her. My intention was to take up as little of her time as possible but I probably came off as pushy and inconsiderate. I'm sorry, Nancy!
Picture
I love this quilt (Meg's Garden by Don't Look Now -- link in the photo). My goal is to make a show-worthy quilt every year.
And now four of my favorite quilts that I saw. Sadly, I didn't even get a chance to see the whole show, I was that busy! First is the whole quilt and then a closeup.
Something else happened at the show, but I'm going to save that for another post.. Stay tuned!

I have two pieces of great news! One is that I'm going to be giving my lecture, "Quilting with Less Stress on a Rinky Dink Machine" at Quilt Expo! If you haven't been to Expo before, it's a great show put on by Nancy Zieman Productions as well as Wisconsin Public Television.

This lecture is a great way to learn how to build confidence as you approach quilting your first pieces. It's only $10, and I'm giving the lecture all three days of Expo. Here's a link to sign up!

The other news is that my quilt, Meg's Garden, has been accepted into the show as well! I'd love for you to come and see this quilt in person!

If you are able to come, please keep an eye out for me! I'd love to say hi!

It's Alive!

Wow. So much has happened in the past few days. A month ago I formed unSpooled, LLC, but hadn't quite finished everything up. Tonight I'm on the road, traveling to North Carolina to become a Tuffetsource affiliate instructor, Friday I'm going to the International Quilt Festival in Chicago, and next week is Spring Break. So, I really wanted to get some things done before this two week period. Of course, life being as it is, I didn't get some things done until just last night. One of them is this website. I've been working on it since the middle of February, but wasn't quite ready to pull the trigger. But here we are!

I'm using Weebly to host, and for the most part, their templates are reasonably easy to use. Though I have a history in IT, I've been so far removed from it that my knowledge just isn't that useful any more. It's like being a really good switchboard operator and being given a smartphone. Luckily, so many things are just drag and drop, it's not a problem. I may play around with templates until I settle on the right one.

I also may copy over some of my posts from My Feed Dogs Are Down, mostly the ones that give advice or instruction. I may feature these as my very own little Throwback Thursday.
holy applique!
In the meantime, my Meg's Garden quilt was given Viewer's Choice in the Madison Modern Quilt Guild's exhibition at the Sun Prairie Quilt Show on Tuesday. The pattern is Meg's Garden from Don't Look Now.

While at that show, I got to docent for the first time, which meant I got to be one of the white glove ladies. I also got to know one of my fellow MMQG members while she co-docented (we're saying that's a word). That gave me the chance to really look the quilts that other members had entered. Seeing
them multiple times gave me time to really appreciate different things about them.

Until next time, which I'm sure will be a tuffet update, please enjoy a slideshow of the work of the Madison Modern Quilt Guild!
