Retreat FAQ
When is the retreat?
The retreat runs from Friday, February 3, to Sunday, February 5, 2016.
Where is the retreat held?
The retreat is at the On Pins and Needles Castle Retreat in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. More information about the retreat center below.
How much does the retreat cost?
The retreat will run $325. That covers your overnight accommodations for two nights, use of the workroom, most meals, and the instructor fee.
Will we have free time?
Yes, some free time is built into the schedule so that you can explore Lake Geneva. This town has lots of galleries and shops for you to enjoy.
What's the workshop all about?
This free motion quilting workshop is designed for beginning free-motion quilters, or those who don't quite feel confident in free-motion quilting. It's time to turn those tops into quilts!
What is the schedule?
Arrival time on Friday is 2:00 pm or any time thereafter. Feel free to bring a project to work on if you're arriving in the afternoon After dinner (or earlier, if everyone has arrived), we'll have a trunk show of my quilting work. Then we'll work on some quilting exercises which will help build your muscle memory and get you on the fast track to quilting with confidence. On Saturday, it's time to quilt your own quilt! Saturday evening, if you're up for it, we will have a class on McTavishing! Then, if you really want a challenge, we can delve into Victorian Feathers. These sessions are optional, and can be joined as you please.
What is your cancellation policy?
Signups are nonrefundable and final lodging/meals payment is due on January 9, 2017. If something happens and you must cancel after January 9, we will do our best to fill your spot but we can't guarantee it. Roommate preferences will be honored as best we can based on the receipt of the second roommate's downpayment. Spots are limited so don't delay in signing up!
What do I need to bring?
A detailed list will be sent out to participants, but in general, you'll bring several practice quilt "sandwiches" of muslin and batting, and a small basted quilt or two, as well as thread and your sewing machine.
Really? That's it?
We're likely to have some things available for purchase if you need them: quilting gloves, marking implements, etc., but for the most part, you probably have everything at home.
I must need a fancy machine....
Au contraire! I quilted for years on a $200 Kenmore; in fact, I'll bring it to the retreat. You don't need a fancy machine at all, though the larger the space to the right of your needle, the easier it is to quilt.
What is the downpayment amount?
We are asking for $100 as your downpayment to hold your spot, with the remaining due on or before January 9, 2017.
